1) Batu Caves
This 400-million-year-old natural wonder is a hugely popular tourist attraction of Malaysia. It is home to perhaps the most famous Hindu temple outside India. You can hike the giant limestone cliffs to reach the caves, each containing Hindu temples and shrines, for a splendid skyline view of Kuala Lumpur.
2) Petronas Towers and Galeri Petronas
The most iconic sights of Kuala Lumpur, these incredibly designed skyscrapers are the tallest twin towers in the world. Getting atop the towers requires a ticket but you can stop by and take photographs of the gigantic structures from the outside. Just 2 minutes away from twin towers is Galeri Petronas, an art gallery free for public viewing. Here you can discover beautiful and thought-provoking artworks by both Malaysian and foreign artists.
3) Historic Walking Tour
Discover colonial British buildings of the late 1800s on a historic walking tour of Merdeka Square. The exploration will take you through wonderful colonial and Moorish architecture lined up along the edges of Merdeka Square. This unique experience usually lasts for a couple of hours, and gives you a great view of the city.
4) Houses of Worship
Kuala Lumpur has an abundance of mosques and churches as well as Buddhist and Hindu temples, encapsulating the cultural diversity of the city. You will find many such houses of worship along the edges of Chinatown. St. Mary’s Anglican Cathedral, Batu Caves, Thean Hou temple, Masjid Negara, Masjid Jamek are some of the most famous and beautiful houses of worship in Kuala Lumpur.
5) Parks of Kuala Lumpur
There are many parks in this green city, but the two main parks to visit are Lake Gardens (Taman Botani Perdana) and KLCC Park. Experience mother nature in the Lake Gardens, a large recreational park located in the middle of the bustling city. Both parks offer amazing views of the nearby Petronas towers for an urban twist to the natural environments.
6) Kuala Lumpur’s Central Market
Discover Pasar Seni, the central market of Kuala Lumpur. This beautiful art-deco colonial building houses a huge market. From arts and handicrafts to bustling cafes and restaurants, the market offers a vibrant mix of shops and eateries. Although it’s pretty expensive to shop here, window shopping is always free.
7) Kuala Lumpur’s Little India
Commonly known as Little India, Brickfield is a small neighbourhood located just outside the city centre. The colourful streets of this area are full of shops selling Indian dresses, goods, and accessories. You can also satiate your hunger at one of the area’s many affordable cafés & restaurants. Do not miss the famous banana leaf meal, meant to be eaten the traditional way, only with your hands.
