A Seafarer’s Tale: 8 Days in Puerto Princesa and El Nido

Growing up near the coast, I’ve always felt at home by the sea. So, when the opportunity arose to explore Palawan, specifically Puerto Princesa and El Nido, I didn’t think twice. Eight days of pristine beaches, turquoise waters, and unforgettable adventures? Sign me up.

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Princesa

Touching down at Puerto Princesa Airport, I felt the warm breeze and knew this was going to be special. My accommodation was simple yet welcoming—a perfect start to this island journey.

Day 2: The Underground River

The highlight of the day was the Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Drifting through the cavern’s cool, shadowy waters felt like stepping into another world. Stalactites and stalagmites twisted into surreal shapes, and the guide’s stories brought the place to life.

Day 3: Journey to El Nido

The drive to El Nido was long but scenic. Rolling hills, verdant forests, and glimpses of the ocean kept me company. By the time we arrived, the excitement for what lay ahead was bubbling over.

Day 4 to 5: Hidden Gems and Starry Nights in Darocotan

A custom boat tour revealed El Nido’s hidden treasures. From Secret Lagoon to isolated coves, every stop was a postcard come to life. That night, we camped on Darocotan Island, dining by a bonfire under a canopy of stars. It was humbling and grounding—a moment that felt plucked from a dream.

Waking up on Darocotan, I spent the morning snorkeling, spotting schools of vibrant fish darting through coral gardens. A boat tour took us to more secluded beaches, each one more pristine than the last.

Day 6 to 7: Adrenaline at Nacpan Beach

A short transfer brought me to Nacpan Beach, a stretch of sand so idyllic it felt surreal. The evening’s highlight? Ziplining with a view of the ocean as the sun dipped below the horizon. My heart raced, but the thrill was worth it.

The seventh day was dedicated to El Nido’s iconic island-hopping tours. From the Big Lagoon to Seven Commandos Beach, I was awestruck by the sheer beauty of it all. That night, I sat on Nacpan Beach, savoring every moment of this adventure.

Day 8: Farewell to Palawan

Saying goodbye to Palawan was bittersweet. The return drive to Puerto Princesa was a quiet one, filled with reflections of the past week. At the airport, I promised myself I’d return someday.

Final Word

Palawan isn’t just a destination; it’s a feeling—a connection to nature, adventure, and peace. From the underground river to starlit beaches and adrenaline-pumping ziplines, every moment was a story waiting to be told.

For anyone who craves the ocean’s embrace and the thrill of discovery, Puerto Princesa and El Nido are waiting. But for me, they’ll always be a place where I found both adventure and tranquility.
