Costa Rica – La Poás Volcano Update

La Poás Eruption in April 13 2017

On April 13 2017, Costa Rica’s La Poás Volcano erupted. It was one of the most explosive eruptions in the country’s history. According to the country’s volcanic experts, future Poás eruptions can continue within the next months.  Furthermore, La Poás erupted again on June 11, and emitted a vertical ash cloud 600 metres into the air. It caused no major damages to the surrounding areas, including the Poás National Park. However, visits and tours for the volcanic mountain and park are suspended until further notice. The Costa Rica Times notes that the “Poás volcano currently presents conditions that could lead to an eruption in the short term.”
