When beauty queens hit the road, the journey is bound to be glamorous, exciting, and full of unforgettable moments. This time, my fellow beauty queen friends and I decided to explore the vibrant and culturally rich country of Mexico, courtesy of Bamba Travel. With an itinerary that promised everything from ancient ruins to serene beaches, we embarked on a 17-day adventure that was both affordable and luxurious. Here’s a glimpse into our fabulous trip!
Day 1 to Day 2: Mexico City and Teotihuacan Tour
We arrived in Mexico City and were whisked away to our hostel dorm, where we settled in for the night. The city buzzed with energy, setting the perfect tone for the adventure ahead.
On Day 2, an early start took us to Teotihuacan, the City of the Gods. We explored the majestic pyramids and soaked in the mystical atmosphere before the crowds arrived. The visit to a local family’s obsidian workshop, complete with tastings of tequila, mezcal, and pulque, added a delightful cultural touch to our day.
Day 3 to Day 4: Oaxaca Adventures
We took a bus to Oaxaca, a city brimming with colonial charm. The Hierve el Agua, Mitla & Tule Day Trip was a highlight. We marveled at the petrified waterfalls, ancient ruins, and the massive Tule Tree. The visit to a Mezcal factory was a treat, and we learned how this traditional drink is crafted.
Day 5 to Day 6: Monte Alban & Puerto Escondido
We explored the Monte Alban ruins and visited local indigenous villages, immersing ourselves in the vibrant culture and art of Oaxaca. An overnight bus took us to Puerto Escondido, where we enjoyed a free day relaxing by the beach, soaking up the sun, and diving into the local cuisine.
Day 7 to Day 8: San Cristobal de las Casas
Another overnight bus journey brought us to the charming town of San Cristobal de las Casas. We spent a free day wandering through its colorful streets, exploring markets, and sampling delicious street food.
Day 9 to Day 10: Sumidero Canyon & Indigenous Communities
We embarked on a breathtaking boat tour through Sumidero Canyon, with its towering cliffs and diverse wildlife. The next day, we visited the indigenous communities of San Juan Chamula and Zinacantan, gaining insights into their unique traditions and crafts.
Day 11 to Day 12: Palenque & Yaxchilan
A journey to Palenque introduced us to stunning Mayan ruins surrounded by lush jungle. The trip included stops at the beautiful Agua Azul and Misol-Ha waterfalls. Our exploration continued with a boat trip to Yaxchilan, an archaeological gem deep in the Lacandon Jungle, followed by a night in rustic jungle cabins.
Day 13 to Day 14: Merida and Uxmal
After returning to Palenque, we took a bus to Merida. The Uxmal & Cenotes Day Tour was a refreshing experience. We explored ancient pyramids and took a dip in the crystal-clear waters of cenotes, natural sinkholes that are truly magical.
Day 15: Chichen Itza and Tulum
Our journey from Merida to Tulum included a day trip to Chichen Itza, one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The grandeur of the Kukulkan Pyramid and the historical richness of the site left us in awe. Arriving in Tulum, we looked forward to the beachside relaxation awaiting us.
Day 16 to 17: Tulum to Cancun
After a leisurely morning in Tulum, we boarded a bus to Cancun. Our final day was a bittersweet farewell to Mexico, as we took a shuttle to the airport, reminiscing about our incredible journey.
