The Douro, Portugal
Rio Douro translates to the ‘river of gold’ and when the light hits it just right, it’s not hard to see why. Flowing at over 320km across Portugal and Spain surrounded by natural beauty the whole way. Grapes grow in the wineries nestled on the banks of the river, producing port wine, for hundreds of years. It is known as one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world.
The Neretva, Croatia
The Neretva River is the longest and most beautiful river in Croatia, and an absolute paradise for nature lovers! It flows at around 230 km passing by the famous city of Mostar. Well known as the “Old Bridge” a famous landmark in Mostar, you can admire the river and scenery from above. The river provides rich soil and fresh water for the stunning greenery growing all around.
Fjaðrá River, Iceland
This majestic river in Iceland actually carved out a canyon, called Fjaðrárgljúfur, which is about 100m deep and 2km long! Travellers can even go hiking in the Canyon when the water is at low levels and appreciate the stunning landscapes and gushing waterfalls.
Krka River, Croatia
This river, is a part of one of the most beautiful national parks in the world, Krka National Park. The Greeks called this river Catarbates, meaning “steeply falling”. The river is famous for its 7 cascading waterfalls and the Mediterranean sunshine, attracting visitors from all over the world. No wonder it’s one of the main rivers in Europe.
