Mount Bromo, Java
When planning places to see in Indonesia, this natural wonder cannot be missed. Still one of the most active volcanoes in the world, Mount Bromo is famous for its stunning views from the top. Yes, travellers come in droves to hike to the summit, and watch the sunrise. I know this means a particularly early morning rise, but trust us, you won’t want to miss it!
Orangutan Sanctuary, Borneo
Fancy yourself the new David Attenborough? An experience that only two places in the world can give you, Borneo and Sumatra. Yes, there are only TWO natural habitats left in the world for the critically endangered Orangutans. Not only do you get to see these elusive, intelligent animals in the wild, but by visiting the sanctuary you help to support the preservation and care of the species. Win, win!
Gili Islands, Lombok
Ok, we didn’t say skip the partying all together! Made up of 3 little islands: Gili Air, Gili Meno and Gili Trawangan you will be smiling ear to ear when cruising to your stop. And although Gili Trawangan is known as the party island, when you are walking around Meno or Air you will feel like you have the whole island to yourself. And fear not, there are regular boats between the islands to give you a taste of every atmosphere.
Uluwatu Temple, Bali
Resting on a clifftop, overlooking the Indian Ocean, there is more than one reason to visit the Uluwatu temple. Known as one of Bali’s six key spiritual pillars, you will be immersed in culture as you explore the temple. And as the sun goes down, be sure to stay for the iconic Kecak Fire dance, a famous Balinese performance.
Padar Island, Lesser Sunda Islands
Reaching the summit on Padar island is a view that will leave you speechless, with a view overlooking 7 beaches and endless rolling hills. It’s located within the Komodo National Park, although you won’t find any of the giant lizards roaming around this particular island, they were driven away by the lack of food. Although, it’s only a short trip to Rinca island if you want to see the dragons up close and personal.
