Chasing Aurora: My Group Tour Vacation Through Iceland’s Northern Lights

As a cardiologist, my life is often filled with the rhythms of a busy hospital, but there are moments when I need to step away from the familiar and embrace the unknown.

Recently, I embarked on an extraordinary adventure to Iceland, a land where the heart of nature beats fiercely, and where the sky dances with the ethereal glow of the Northern Lights. Join me as I recount my unforgettable experience on the Northern Lights Hunt Adventure by Bamba Travel.

Day 1: Reykjavik, Iceland

Iceland Kirkjufell

Upon arrival in Reykjavik, I was whisked away to the charming Centerhotel Plaza, nestled in the heart of the city’s Old Town. Despite the city lights, the promise of witnessing the elusive Northern Lights hung in the air like a whispered secret. As I settled into my accommodations, anticipation stirred within me for the adventures that lay ahead.

Day 2: Reykjavik - Vik, Iceland

Silfra Iceland

The second day dawned with the promise of exploration as we embarked on the renowned Golden Circle tour. From the historic Thingvellir National Park, where the tectonic plates of Europe and North America converge, to the awe-inspiring Geysir Hot Spring area and the majestic Gullfoss Waterfall, each stop was a testament to Iceland’s raw, untamed beauty.

Our journey culminated in Vik, a rural town surrounded by rugged landscapes, where we eagerly awaited the opportunity to witness the Northern Lights.

Day 3: Vik, Iceland

Icelandic Volunteer

With hearts full of anticipation, we set out to explore the Jökulsarlon Glacier Lagoon, a mesmerizing spectacle of icebergs adrift in crystalline waters. The sight of seals frolicking amidst the icy expanse left an indelible mark on my soul, a reminder of nature’s boundless wonders. As we journeyed back to Vik, a sense of reverence enveloped me, for I had borne witness to nature’s grandeur in all its splendor.

Day 4: Vik - Reykjavik, Iceland

The Sun Voyager, Sólfar in Icelandic, is a sculpture in Reykjavik, a popular attraction in the capital city.

Our final day of exploration beckoned with promises of adventure as we traversed the southern coast of Iceland. From the thundering cascades of Skogafoss and Seljalandsfoss Waterfalls to the stark beauty of Myrdalsjökull and Eyjafjallajökull glaciers, each stop offered a glimpse into Iceland’s tumultuous past. Our journey culminated in the otherworldly Blue Lagoon, a sanctuary of relaxation amidst the rugged Icelandic landscape.

Day 5: Goodbye to Iceland

Fjaðrá River, Iceland

As I bid farewell to Iceland and our expert local travel guide, a sense of gratitude washed over me for the memories forged and the friendships kindled. Though my journey had come to an end, the spirit of adventure burned brightly within me, a testament to the transformative power of travel.

Realizations

Iceland tourists

Through my journey in Iceland, I came to realize that the heart of adventure lies not in the destination, but in the moments shared along the way. Whether chasing the Northern Lights or marveling at nature’s grandeur, each experience served as a poignant reminder of the beauty that surrounds us.

Final Word

As I reflect on my Northern Lights Hunt Adventure, I am reminded of the words of John Muir: “In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks.” Iceland, with its untamed landscapes and ethereal beauty, has left an indelible mark on my soul, igniting a passion for exploration that will forever burn brightly within me. Until we meet again, dear Iceland, may your skies continue to dance with the mesmerizing glow of the Northern Lights.
