As a heart doctor, my life is often filled with high-stress situations and long hours. So when the opportunity arose for an 8-day vacation in Costa Rica, I jumped at the chance to explore this beautiful country known for its stunning natural landscapes and laid-back lifestyle. Join me on this journey as I recount my experiences from arrival in San Jose to bidding farewell to this tropical paradise.
Day 1 to Day 2: San Jose, Costa Rica
Upon landing in San Jose, Costa Rica, I was greeted by warm tropical air and the promise of adventure. After being whisked away to my hotel by our local travel expert, I took the opportunity to explore the bustling city center, immersing myself in the sights and sounds of the Central Market and the historic La Plaza de La Cultura.
The following day, my journey truly began as I embarked on a shuttle ride to Puerto Viejo, a vibrant coastal town nestled along the Caribbean coast. With my toes in the sand and the rhythm of reggae filling the air, I knew I was in for a week of relaxation and exploration.
Day 3 to Day 4: Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica
The next couple of days were spent basking in the natural beauty of Puerto Viejo. From the pristine beaches of Playa Chiquita to the lush rainforests of Manzanillo, every moment felt like a postcard come to life. I took advantage of the myriad activities available, from surfing lessons to snorkeling excursions in Cahuita National Park. Yet, some of my most cherished memories were simply walking along the shore, feeling the warm Caribbean breeze against my skin.
Day 5 to Day 6: Puerto Viejo - La Fortuna, Costa Rica
As I bid farewell to Puerto Viejo, I found myself eagerly anticipating the next leg of my journey: La Fortuna. Nestled at the base of the majestic Arenal Volcano, this charming village offered our small group tour a stark contrast to the laid-back vibes of the coast.
Over the next couple of days, I found myself immersed in adrenaline-pumping activities, from zip-lining through the rainforest canopy to white-water rafting down the roaring rivers. Yet, amidst the excitement, there were also moments of tranquility as I marveled at the beauty of the surrounding landscape.
Day 7: La Fortuna - San Jose, Costa Rica
As my time in Costa Rica drew to a close, I couldn’t help but feel a pang of sadness at the thought of leaving this tropical paradise behind. Yet, as I boarded the shuttle back to San Jose, I found solace in the memories I had created and the friendships I had forged along the way. As the city lights twinkled in the distance, I knew that this would not be my last adventure in Costa Rica.
Day 8: San Jose, Costa Rica
With a heavy heart, I bid farewell to Costa Rica, knowing that a piece of my soul would forever remain in this enchanting country. As I boarded the plane and watched the verdant landscape disappear beneath the clouds, I made a silent vow to return someday, to once again lose myself in the beauty of this tropical paradise.
Final Word
My journey through Costa Rica had been nothing short of magical. From the pristine beaches of Puerto Viejo to the dramatic landscapes of La Fortuna, every moment had been filled with wonder and adventure.
As I returned home, I carried with me not only memories of the breathtaking scenery but also a renewed sense of perspective and appreciation for the natural world. Costa Rica may be known as the “rich coast,” but for me, its true wealth lies in the boundless beauty of its landscapes and the warmth of its people. Until we meet again, pura vida, Costa Rica.
