Recognized as one of the best vacation spots in Australia, Fraser Island is a natural paradise. The Island has the world’s longest sand beach, making it a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Fraser offers amazing off-road fun, ever-changing landscapes, unique flora and fauna, hundreds of beautiful freshwater lakes, and colourful sand cliffs.
Here are some of the amazing things to do on Fraser Island:
Sunrise
If you are on the east side of the island, a spectacular sunrise view awaits you every morning. Get up early and take a stroll along Eurong beach to enjoy the view.
4X4 Drive
This is a very popular Fraser Island activity. Get your hands on a 4×4 and experience the extreme thrill of action-packed coastal driving. Cruise along the main stretch of beach on the east coast known as the 75 Mile and enjoy the splendid views as you cruise around the island.
Eli Creek
This is the most famous creek on Fraser Island. Located on the beach drive, it is an amazing natural wonder. The little crystal-clear stream has been filtered by sand since antiquity. Stop by at this spot to relax and indulge in wading or swimming.
Coloured sand cliffs
As you drive along the beach, this key attraction along the eastern highway will amaze you. The multicoloured sand cliffs, or pinnacles, have formed over hundreds of thousands of years. You are going to feel lucky to be able to observe this breathtaking sight and capture it with your camera.
Indian Head
This bluff is located at the end of the 75 Mile Beach and offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding beaches. Here you will have the vantage point to spot rich marine life such as sharks, turtles, dolphins, and whales.
Champagne Pools
These are very famous natural swimming pools where you can enjoy a refreshing dip in magnificent shallow water. This collection of recreational pools, formed by volcanic rocks, create the perfect calm atmosphere to enjoy saltwater swimming. The walk down the staircase to reach the pools is also filled with amazing views.
Lake McKenzie
This lake, which contains no groundwater, is fed with rainwater only. The white silica sand and impressive beauty of the lake make it one of the most visited sites on the island. A refreshing swim in the bright blue water will relax your senses after a long drive.
Maheno Shipwreck
Maheno is an old and rusting shipwreck sitting against the impeccable Cathedral Beach. It was once used as a vessel during World War I, and was washed ashore in 1935 after being wrecked by a cyclone. This is a perfect place to capture some unique and amazing photos.
Sunset
Sunsets are amazing on this island. Discover the west coast as you end your day at the Great Sandy Straits to witness an unforgettable sunset.
