Day 1 to Day 2: Quito, Ecuador
Upon landing in Quito, I was immediately captivated by the city’s vibrant energy. With its captivating streets and bustling markets, I couldn’t resist exploring the city’s rich history and savoring its local flavors. Our orientation meeting later that day was filled with excitement and anticipation as I met my fellow adventurers, setting the tone for the incredible journey ahead.
Day two was equally thrilling! Our private transport whisked us away to downtown Quito, where we marveled at the stunning architecture of the Historic Center. From iconic landmarks like the Basilica del Voto to the lively La Ronda street, the day was filled with awe and wonder. And let’s not forget the mind-blowing experiments at the Intiñan Museum – balancing an egg on a nail was definitely a highlight!
Day 3: Yunguilla - Tena, Ecuador
Our journey continued to Yunguilla, a place of warmth and community. We immersed ourselves in their daily life, and the experience was nothing short of heartwarming.
Later, as we made our way to Tena, we stopped at Amupakin to delve into the rich Kiwcha tradition. The healing power of Kichwa ancestral medicine left a profound impact on me, reminding me of the importance of nature and spiritual wisdom.
Day 4: Tena, Ecuador
Day four was all about adventure and cultural immersion. To prepare, we did our research and wrote a good itinerary. Also, we made sure to bring some mosquito repellant to avoid those unwanted stings.
Our trek through the secondary forest was exhilarating, and the afternoon spent with an Amazonian Kichwa community was truly special. Witnessing their unique connection with the jungle and participating in their traditions, like preparing and tasting “chicha,” was an experience I’ll cherish forever.
Day 5 to Day 6: Tena - Banos, Ecuador
Our journey continued to the charming town of Baños, where we visited Yanacocha, a rescue center dedicated to preserving biodiversity. Learning about their mission to educate communities on wildlife conservation was both inspiring and eye-opening. The next day was filled with leisure and adventure, from salsa lessons to optional activities like zip-lining and rafting. Baños truly captivated my heart with its vibrant culture and breathtaking landscapes.
Day 7: Banos - Quilotoa, Ecuador
On day seven, we embarked on an unforgettable journey to the Quilotoa Lagoon. The volcanic crater lake’s striking greenish hue was mesmerizing, and hiking around its rim offered panoramic views that took my breath away. Visiting a studio in Tigua renowned for its vibrant artwork provided valuable insights into the area’s rich cultural heritage.
Day 8 to Day 9: Quilotoa - Quito, Ecuador
Our final days in Ecuador were spent exploring the majestic Cotopaxi volcano and its stunning surroundings. The hike up to the refuge José Róse offered breathtaking views, and the downhill cycling towards the Limpiopungo Lagoon was exhilarating. As our journey came to an end, we enjoyed a late lunch at a beautiful hacienda before heading back to Quito for our last night together.
On the ninth day, it was time to say goodbye. With hearts full of memories and new friendships forged, we bid farewell to this enchanting country, promising ourselves to return someday.
