Exploring Costa Rica’s Natural Wonders: An Unforgettable Fam Trip Experience

As the Chief Product Officer of Bamba Travel, I had the distinct pleasure of joining a remarkable Fam trip organized by the Instituto Costarricense de Turismo (ICT). From June 20th to 26th, I embarked on an adventure that took me through some of Costa Rica’s most stunning natural landscapes, indulging in local culture and unparalleled experiences.

June 20: Arrival in San Jose

Our journey began in the bustling capital city of San Jose, where we checked in to the iconic Grand Hotel Costa Rica by Hilton Curio Collection. Centrally located, this hotel offers a rich history and modern amenities, making it the perfect starting point for our adventure.

June 21: Rafting Adventure and Transfer to Puerto Viejo

The next morning, we travelled to Siquirres, where an exhilarating rafting experience on the Pacuare river awaited us. The rapids were an exciting challenge, but what stole the show was the incredible bird watching. From colourful toucans to various tropical species, it was a paradise for bird lovers. Afterward, we transferred to Puerto Viejo, renowned for its laid-back “rasta” vibe and vibrant culture. Our stay at Namuwoki Lodge added the perfect touch of rustic charm and comfort.

June 22: Snorkelling, Hiking, and Chocolate Delight

Our day began with snorkelling at Cahuita National Park. Here, I had the joy of seeing manta rays gliding gracefully and schools of fish darting amidst the vibrant coral reef. The highlight, however, was swimming above two majestic nurse sharks. As a friendly reminder, it’s crucial to avoid sunscreens that harm coral reefs—protecting these ecosystems is vital for future generations.

Following the water adventure, we hiked through Cahuita’s lush trails, experiencing its unique biodiversity up close. We also visited the Bri Bri Chocolate Experience, where we learned the ancient techniques of chocolate-making from the indigenous Bri Bri people, enriching our understanding of local culture and traditions. Our evening was spent back at Namuwoki Lodge, resting from an eventful day.

June 23: Transfer to Tortuguero

Departing from Puerto Viejo, we headed to Tortuguero, a region best explored by boat. The journey was serene and provided ample opportunities to witness the region’s abundant wildlife. Upon arrival, the tranquility of the area enveloped us, making it a perfect spot to unwind. Although it wasn’t turtle nesting season, we learned about these magnificent creatures and the village’s dedicated conservation efforts. We stayed at the charming Evergreen Lodge, which offered a comfortable and immersive rainforest experience.

June 24: Tortuguero Canal Tour and Transfer to Sarapiquí

We began the day with a captivating boat tour through the intricate canals of Tortuguero, often referred to as the Amazon of Costa Rica. Each twist and turn revealed more of the region’s rich flora and fauna.

During our canal journey, we saw a plethora of wildlife, including crocodiles, caimans, spider monkeys, howling monkeys, white-faced capuchins, Jesus Christ lizards, and various bird species. We even spotted sloths, adding to the thrill of the experience. After the tour, we transferred to Sarapiquí, an area known for its adventurous activities and natural beauty. We stayed at Hotel El Bambu, which provided a cozy and eco-friendly lodging experience.

June 25: A Day of Adventures in Sarapiquí

Sarapiquí didn’t disappoint, starting with early morning bird watching and leading into a thrilling zipline experience. We also enjoyed a pineapple tour, learning about the organic cultivation of this sweet fruit, followed by a visit to Ants Town. The day concluded with a organic banana tour, offering insights into one of Costa Rica’s major exports. That evening, we headed back to San Jose for our final night at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cariari.

June 26: Departure from San Jose
