Need something to do while you travel through Spain in Summer 2017? Then look no further because we have six Spanish fiestas and festivals that you cannot miss out on this year, from running with the bulls in Pamplona to the world’s biggest food fight in La Tomatina in the Valencia region of Spain!
World Pride Day – Madrid
June 23 – July 2 2017
Celebrate World Gay Pride in Madrid this summer. This week long Summer Spain Festival started on Friday June 23rd but goes on until July 2nd. So you still have time to party with the most fabulous people on Earth! Special performers for Friday, June 30th include the Weather Girls, OBK, DJ Jane Kamikaze, and the Spanish pop star Marta Sanchez!
San Fermin – Pamplona
July 6 – 13 2017
Few people know this but San Fermin is more than just the “running of the bulls.” This week long Spanish fiesta also includes El Chupinazo where participants are drenched in mustard, champagne, wine, and sangria among other things. There are also carnival games and more fun activities sprinkled throughout the week. Are you bold and adventurous enough for this unbelievable event?
La Feria de Agosto – Malaga
August 12 – 19 2017
This summer Spain festival in August celebrates the Catholic Kings reconquista of the region of Malaga. La Feria de Agosto also known as La Feria de Malaga includes fireworks, carnival games, music and performances, and lots of great food. So don’t miss out on this explosive block party in Malaga this year!
La Fiesta Major de Gracia – Barcelona
August 15 – 21 2017
La Fiesta Major de Gracia in Barcelona is one of the most colourful festivals in the city. In 1897 Barcelona incorporated the small village of Gracia, which is why Gracia still has that small village charm, unlike the rest of the sprawled out city. Every individual street in the neighbourhood of Gracia has special workshops, activities, pop-up stands and food snacks. So don’t skip out on one of the most anticipated Spanish fiestas in August.
La Semana Grande – Bilbao
August 19 – 27 2017
At La Semana Grande also known as Aste Nagusia, Basque culture celebrates at its fullest! Everything from music and dancing to sports and friendly competitions. This is as much a children’s festival as it is a festival for adults filled with bullfighting workshops to an unbelievable fireworks display. If you’re in Bilbao around this time of year, you won’t want to miss out on the Spanish fiesta known as Semana Grande.
La Tomatina – Buñol
August 30 2017
Last but not least, we have the famous La Tomatina where participants are encouraged to fight… with food, specifically tomatoes! But if you think that’s weird, then get ready because it gets weirder. This extreme food fight outdoors can only begin when someone brings down a ham tied to a greasy pole. Once the ham is taken down, the tomato throwing can finally begin. If you’re in the Valencia region of Spain then you definitely don’t want to miss out one of the most “saucy” Spanish fiestas in August.
But if fiestas and festivals aren’t really your thing then not to worry because Bamba has got some of the greatest trips and tours in Spain. Check them out today!
