Thailand’s 3 Most Popular Islands

When people say that they are going to travel to Thailand, they normally mean visiting the most popular tourist cities of the country, especially Bangkok, Chiang Mai and the southern islands. Thanks to popular beach parties like Koh Phangan’s Full Moon Party, and because of the chance to photograph postcard perfect scenery, most travellers to Thailand are drawn to the popular islands.

Here is a list of Thailand’s 3 most popular islands and some of the reasons why they should be on your check-list:

1. Koh Samui

Koh Samui

One thing that makes Koh Samui special compared to the other islands, is that it is the place where tourists, artists and locals interact and enjoy life by participating in the many festivals and local activities available on the island.

Koh Samui is also one of the best places to get your PADI scuba diving license and enjoy the marine environment.

2. Koh Phangan

This is most probably the most renamed and visited islands of all, thanks to the infamous Full Moon Party in Koh Phangan, the place that started this epic beach party. The island is so small that during the Full Moon Party, it seems that the entire island is out drinking and dancing together until sunrise.

Beside partying and night-life, travellers can enjoy and chill by the stunning beaches, go ziplining above the rainforest canopy, or snorkel  around Koh Ma Island.

3. Koh Phi Phi

This is the smallest and maybe the most beautiful of all islands. Koh Phi Phi is a must-see destination, a paradise with no cars, tuk tuks or buses – only bicycles. It is small enough to allow you to easily walk from one side to the other. It feels like a vacation from the usual landmarks of the country: the sunny beach, the clean waters, the stunning rocks around the beach, and the laid back island atmosphere, make this place a must-see in Thailand.

By visiting Koh Phi Phi, most people end up visiting Maya Beach, destination used for the film ‘The Beach’.  Beside Leonardo Di Caprio’s set, the amazing snorkelling and feeding the fish (they go nuts for rice!), Koh Phi Phi is also the place to be during the Half Moon, with fire performers setting up fire limbo and jump rope. It’s an amazing atmosphere that transitions perfectly from day to night.
