The crisp morning air greeted us as we eagerly anticipated the start of our adventure. Accommodation pick-up was scheduled between 5:00-6:00 am, and our journey commenced as we were transferred by bus to Lares Town, perched at an altitude of 2,900 meters. The promise of natural hot springs was an irresistible invitation, providing a moment of tranquility before embarking on our 6-hour trek. This marked the beginning of an extraordinary expedition, filled with scenic landscapes, encounters with local communities, and the aroma of Peruvian cuisine wafting through the air.

As the sun graced the horizon with its golden rays, our adventure kicked off in earnest. The zigzagging climb to Wakawasi at an elevation of 3,850 meters unveiled the majestic glaciers and an array of wildlife, setting the scene for an immersive experience with nature. Our campsite in Wakawasi allowed us to connect with the local families, sharing stories and savoring the flavors of their traditional cuisine in Peru. The sense of community and the delectable dishes served as a prelude to the gastronomic journey that lay ahead.

The second day commenced with a challenging uphill trek, a testament to our determination and the allure of the Ipsayccocha Pass at an elevation of 4,400 meters. Amidst the effort, the beauty of the landscape was an inspiration, and our lunch stop by the lake rejuvenated our spirits. As our local travel expert helped us descend towards Patacancha town, we were greeted with the promise of Aguas Calientes, a town bathed in warmth at 2,100 meters. The anticipation of the culinary delights awaiting us in Aguas Calientes fueled our steps, reminding us that every stride was a step closer to our gastronomic adventure.

The final day held the crowning jewel of our trek—Machu Picchu. An early start allowed us to witness the mystical city shrouded in mist, a sight that whispered tales of ancient civilizations. A guided tour and subsequent exploration offered glimpses into the enigmatic past, leaving us in awe. Energy still surged through our veins, and some of us opted to conquer Huayna Picchu, an endeavor that rekindled our adventurous spirit.

As we descended back to Aguas Calientes, the local marketplace beckoned with vibrant colors and exotic aromas. Here, we discovered the rich tapestry of Peruvian produce and delicacies, providing a final burst of flavor to our trek. The journey back to Cuzco was an opportunity to reflect on the adventure, relishing the memories and savoring the anticipation of future gastronomic explorations.
