A Cultural Journey: My Lares Trek to Machu Picchu with My Friends

Welcome to my exhilarating adventure through the mesmerizing landscapes and rich culture of Peru. I recently had the time of my life on the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu with Bamba Travel, joined by fellow travel enthusiasts. Our journey promised a blend of breathtaking scenery, engaging hikes, and an intimate look into the traditional lives of the Quechua people.

Day 1: Cuzco to Wakawasi

QoriKancha in Cuzco Peru

Our day began with an early morning pick-up from our accommodations in Cuzco, marking the commencement of an unforgettable four-day expedition. A scenic bus transfer took us to Lares Town, where we kicked off our adventure with a visit to the rejuvenating Hot Springs (at an additional cost).

The highlight of the day was a 6-hour trek to the quaint town of Wakawasi. Along the way, we were treated to stunning views of glaciers and encountered local Quechua families, offering us a glimpse into their centuries-old way of life. It was a truly humbling experience to witness and be a part of their harmonious coexistence with nature.

Day 2: Wakawasi to Patacancha

On the second day, our trek continued with a challenging 4-hour uphill hike to Ipsayccocha Pass, where we paused to soak in the beauty of our surroundings. Descending for lunch by a picturesque lake, we proceeded to Patacancha town, surrounded by llamas, alpacas, and lush crop plantations. Camping amidst this abundance of nature was a unique and heartwarming experience, connecting us even more deeply with the vibrant local culture.

Day 3: Patacancha to Aguas Calientes

As day three unfolded, we embarked on a 4-hour trek to Ollantaytambo, followed by a train journey to Aguas Calientes, our gateway to the grand Machu Picchu. An afternoon spent strolling through the bustling streets of Aguas Calientes allowed us to unwind and prepare for the much-anticipated visit to Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu

The final day was a culmination of our incredible journey. We boarded an early morning bus to Machu Picchu, shrouded in the morning mist. A guided tour of this ancient marvel gave us an insight into its historical significance and architectural brilliance. We explored the nooks and crannies of this mystical city, awestruck by its beauty and the enigmatic aura that surrounded us. Climbing Huayna Picchu Peak added an extra layer of adventure and excitement to an already amazing day.

Final Word

In conclusion, the Lares Trek to Machu Picchu with Bamba Travel was an adventure of a lifetime. The breathtaking landscapes, cultural immersion, and the sheer thrill of the trek made this journey an unforgettable experience. It was a joy to share this adventure with fellow travel enthusiasts, and I can’t wait to plan my next expedition to explore more of this beautiful world.
