Our adventure began bright and early as we were picked up from our accommodations in Cuzco. The day kicked off with a scenic drive through the South Valley, setting the stage for the awe-inspiring journey ahead. We savored a delightful lunch in Pitumarca and continued our drive to the trailhead at Quesoyuni.

The trek commenced, leading us through charming villages and granting us the chance to engage with the locals. Along the way, we were treated to the delightful sight of adorable chinchillas and the elusive vicunas, the only non-domesticated members of the llama family in Peru. After a fulfilling hike of 3-4 hours, we reached our camp near the idyllic village of Llamachimpana.

Day 2 dawned with an anticipation of the wondrous sights awaiting us. Following a hearty breakfast, we commenced the day with an early ascent to the astonishing Rainbow Mountain. The journey offered a kaleidoscope of vibrant landscapes and valleys that seemed to be painted by nature’s brushstrokes.

Atop the Rainbow Mountain, we were treated to a panoramic view that seemed almost otherworldly, a patchwork of colors that took our breath away. The adventure continued as we made our way to the Red Valley viewpoint, adding another layer of splendor to this already magnificent trek.

The descent, lasting three hours, was a gradual journey that took us past two exquisite lagoons—Cochayoc and Yanacocha. Each step down was a step closer to the valley of Llamachimpana, where we paused for a well-deserved lunch. Relishing the flavors of the region, we bid farewell to the mountains and made our way back to Cuzco, where our remarkable adventure came to a close.
